La aventura eco-propagandística del equipo de Carbon Neutral Expeditions de navegar el Atlántico Norte hasta Groenlandia con la sola ayuda de la energía solar y eólica terminó abruptamente cuando una tormenta destrozó los paneles fotovoltaicos y el molinillo de viento que impulsaban la nave.
Como habrá estado de fea la cosa que los aventureros lanzaron un pedido de auxilio que fue respondido por... un buque petrolero.
Raoul Surcouf, 40, a landscape gardener from Jersey, and Richard Spink, 31, a physiotherapist from Bristol, had set up the expedition to show how journeys to some of the most remote places on the planet can be undertaken with minimal impact on the environment. Their relief was tinged with a sense of irony as the rescue craft sent by Falmouth coastguard was the Overseas Yellowstone, a 113,000-tonne oil tanker.
Ironías de la vida. Pero como se nota que el afan calentofóbico de ahorrarse emisiones de CO2 les hizo olvidar que mucho antes de la aparición de los combustibles fósiles el hombre ya sabía como surcarse los 7 mares. ¿O acaso el bote de esta expedición estuvo hecho de papel reciclado?
